专利说明:
MANUAL GARBAGE COMPACTOR AND METHOD FOR ITS USE FIELD OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a manual garbage compactor for compactinggarbage in a bag, said garbage compactor containing a handle connected to a receptaclehaving a shape resembling a half-boWl or frustum facing in an opposite direction ascompared to the handle. The invention also relates to a method for manually compacting garbagecontained in e. g. a bag using a manual garbage compactor. The invention also relates to a kit of parts comprising a trash can and a garbage compactor. PRIOR ART Dealing With household Waste has been cumbersome for years; “Taking out thetrash” can not be considered glamorous, and the reasons therefore are sound: the trash isusually gathered in a bag housed in a Waste bin, and “taking out the trash” includesreleasing the bag from the bin, trying to tie a knot With the handles or top portion of thebag in order to avoid trash to fall out from the bag during the transport from the houseto the Waste bin located outside the house. The problems are even more articulated in professional use, i.e. for j anitors andcleaning persons -they have to deal With trash other people have discarded, and there isa risk that the trash might contain sharp, caustic, corrosive or contagious items, i.e.leaking batteries, shattered glass, and used syringes. Manually handling trash bags Withsuch contents may be risky. Moreover, in some cases, the Waste bag may be too full, and in such cases, it isnecessary to manually compact the Waste prior to the handles or top portion of the bagbeing knotted or otherwise closed. This may be a filthy or even risky process, especiallyif the Waste comprises food left-overs or dangerous items. The present invention aims to provide a device for manually compacting Waste before it is carried out to be taken care of. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONThe above and other problems are solved by a manual garbage compactor forcompacting garbage in a bag, said garbage compactor containing a handle connected to a receptacle having a shape resembling a half-boWl or frustum facing in an opposite direction as compared to the handle, wherein an opening arranged for allowing passageof a portion of the bag therethrough is arranged in a centre of the receptacle. In order to allow for a cable tie or rubber band to be conveniently arranged forclosing the bag after compaction of the garbage, the opening may be encircled by anextending wall. In order to connect the handle portion and the receptacle, at least one stanchionmay be provided to connect the handle portion and the receptacle. The at least one stanchion may extend from the vicinity of the extending wall to the handle portion. The above and other problems are also solved by a method for manuallycompacting garbage contained in a bag using a manual garbage compactor, comprisingthe steps of: threading handles or a top portion of a bag into the opening; grabbing the handles or top portion of the bag with one hand; with the other hand, grabbing the handle of the garbage compactor; forcefully pushing the garbage compactor against the bag with its content ofgarbage to be compacted; and releasing the pressure and gently pulling the handles or top portion of the bag, such that the bag will keep the compaction of the garbage even after the user hasreleased the pressure applied to the garbage within the bag. In order to attain a desired level of compaction, steps d and e may be repeated until a desired compaction level has beenachieved. In order to allow for a convenient way of closing the bag after compaction, a cable tie or rubber band may be arranged around the extending wall, such thatonce the garbage in the bag has been compacted to the desired level, the cable tie or therubber band may be pulled upwards, such that it will engage the bag. The invention also solves the above and other problems by providing a kit ofparts comprising a trash can and a garbage compactor wherein a receptacle of thegarbage compactor has a cross section corresponding to a cross section of the trash can. In order to provide for an even better compaction of the garbage, a bottomportion of the trash can may have a form resembling the shape of the receptacle, i.e. a half-bowl or frustum shape helping to compact the garbage from the sides. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS Hereinafter, the invention will be described by reference to the appendeddrawings, wherein: Fig. 1 is a front view showing a garbage compactor according to the presentinvention; Fig. 2 is a side view of the garbage compactor according to Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a top view of the garbage compactor of Figs 1 and 2; Fig. 4 is a side view of the garbage compactor of Figs. 1 , 2 and 3, showntogether with a bag containing garbage to be compacted; Fig. 5 is a side view showing the garbage compactor of Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4 andthe bag of Fig. 4 having been compacted by use of the garbage compactor; Fig. 6 is a perspective view of the garbage compressor according to the presentinvention; and Fig. 7 is a perspective view of a garbage compressor according to the present invention provided with bag closure means. DESCRIPTION OF EMBODIMENTS With reference to f1gs. 1, 2 and 3, a garbage compactor 100 comprises acompaction semi-bowl 110 provided with an inner receptacle 120 partly encircled bywalls 130 and having an open end 140. On an end opposite to the open end 140, anopening 150 is provided. This opening 150 is encircled by an extending wall 160, thepurpose of which will be described later. Next to the opening 150, two stanchions 170 are provided. The stanchions 170extend from the vicinity of the extending wall 160 to a handle portion 180. With reference to Figs. 4 and 5, when using the garbage compactor 100according to the present invention, handles 210 of a bag 200 are threaded into theopening 150, after which a user (not shown) grabs the handles 210 with one hand. Insome cases, the bag might not be provided with handles. In such cases, the user maythread a top portion of the bag through the opening 150. With the other hand, the usergrabs the handle portion 180. Then, the user forcefully pushes the garbage compactoragainst the bag with its content of garbage to be compacted; due to the shape of thereceptacle 120, the bag will not only be compacted in the direction of the garbagecompactor, but also sideways. Then, after the user has pushed the garbage compactor to compact the garbage, the user releases the pressure and gently pulls the handles or top portion of the bag, such that the bag will keep the compaction of the garbage even after the user has released thepressure applied to the garbage within the bag. Favourable results have been achieved by using a “pumping” action, i.e. pressthe garbage compactor, release it, pull the handles or top portion of the bag, press again, release, pull the handles or top portion and repeat until the desired compaction has beenachieved. In the shown embodiment, the extending wall may be used as a means forhousing a sealing means, i.e. a rubber band or a cable tie. By pretensioning a rubberband, or premounting a cable tie around the extending wall, it is possible to achieve aquick and convenient seal of the bag once its contents have been compacted to thedesired level, by simply pulling the cable tie or the rubber band upwards, such that itwill engage the bag. If a cable tie is used, it is preferably tensioned after it has beendisengaged from the extending wall. One example of the above embodiment is shown in Fig. 7, wherein bag sealingmeans are arranged around the extending wall. In the shown embodiment, the receptacle 120 is circular when seen fromabove; this is a shape that works great if the bag is placed on the floor during thecompaction or if the garbage bag is compacted while being placed in a trash can havinga circular cross section. However, in case the trash can in which the bag with its contentof garbage to be compacted is placed in a trash can having another cross section, itmight be advantageous if the receptacle 120 has a shape corresponding to the shape ofthe trash can. In one embodiment of the invention, the garbage compactor is comprised in akit of parts comprising a trash can (not shown) and a garbage compactor having a shapeof the receptacle 120 corresponding to a cross section of the trash can in the kit. In oneembodiment of the invention, a bottom portion in the trash can of the kit of partscomprising the garbage compactor and the trash can has a form resembling the shape ofthe receptacle 120, i.e. a parabolic shape helping to compact the garbage from the sides. Above, the invention has been disclosed as a fully manual device having nomoving parts. It is, however within the scope of the invention to provide the handleportion 180 and/or one or both of the stanchions 170 with means for automaticallypulling the handles or top portion of the bag upwards between the compactions. Such means may for example comprise a spring, a rubberband, a cable or rope(not shown) fastened between the handle portion 180 and a hook adapted to be engagedto the handles or top portion of the bag containing the garbage to be compacted. The hook is preferably drawn towards the handles or top portion of the bag containing non-compacted garbage, such that there will be a tension in the spring or rubber band. Aftera pumping action as disclosed above, the handles or top portion of the bag will be pulledtowards the handle portion 180, hence ensuring an efficient compaction of the garbagein the bag. In another embodiment of the invention, fastening means (not shown) areprovided on one or both of the stanchions 170, said fastening means being adapted forfastening of the handles or top portion of the bag once the garbage contained thereinhaving been sufficiently compacted. By fastening the handles or top portion of the bagto the fastening means, a user will have both hands free for applying e.g. the rubberband or the cable tie that might be arranged around the extended wall. In another, not shown embodiment of the invention, hinges (not shown) areprovided between the stanchions and the receptacle 120, such that the receptacle 120may be tilted in order to allow for the garbage compactor 100 to be hung from e.g. awall. In still another embodiment of the invention, one of the two stanchions 170 isomitted. In combination with the fastening means for the handles or top portion of thebag as disclosed above, this will make it far more convenient to fasten the handles ortop portion to the fastening means. In still another embodiment of the invention, a movable fastening means isprovided on one of the stanchions. This movable fastening means is movable in anupward direction and arranged to allow for fastening of the handles or top portion of thebag. This arrangement allows for an even more precise and convenient way to hold thehandles or top portion of the bag after the compaction. The one-way motion may e.g. beachieved in a fashion similar to the movement of a clamp for carpentry, i.e. such that itlocks under load and is free to move once the load is not applied any more. It should be noted that the above description can be conceived as beingemphasized towards compaction of household trash contained in bags having a size ofsome tens of litres. It should be noted that the invention also encompasses a garbagecompactor being dimensioned to compact trash contained in larger bags, i.e. bags of some hundred litres capacity.
